The Milan Committee of CSCI had the pleasure of sponsoring a special, free performance of Verdi’s Requiem at the Loyola Museum of Art on the afternoon of Sunday, April 21, 2013. Over 100 people came to enjoy a reception of prosecco and appetizers followed by the concert. The Milan Committee sponsored the concert as part of their year-long celebration of the 40th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Chicago and Milan.
The concert was presented by the Italian organization “Waiting for…” from Milan. “Waiting for…” works to promote culture and the arts through events and initiatives that enhance the creativity and talent of young artists. This particular performance was titled “Waiting for Verdi.”
The organization was created by classical singer Francesca Parvizyar, and this concert is one of many that she has produced for the organization. Four singers and two pianists travelled from Italy to Chicago to perform the concert. All six performers are emerging musical artists in the classical music world.
A letter of welcome was read from both Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Milan Mayor Giuliano Pisapia. The event also acted as part of the “2013 Year of Italian Culture in the United States.”
