On October 11, the Osaka Committee of CSCI hosted a welcome reception honoring 22 athletes traveling from Osaka, Japan to Chicago to participate in the 2013 Bank of America Chicago Marathon. The reception was hosted at the rooftop garden of 117 N Jefferson St, a unique and artistic loft building in the West Loop. The large rooftop garden is filled with plants, art and antiques from around the world.
On October 13, the Osaka Committee hosted, together with the Consulate of Japan at Chicago, a Japanese cheering station along the Chicago Marathon route at the corner of Sedgwick and Eugenie Streets. This fun-for-all morning featured Taiko drummers, koinobori wind socks, Japanese flags, t-shirts, free “victory” headbands, hot drinks, snacks and “Chicago ❤ Osaka” bracelets.
Special thanks to Mr. Henry Latt and Ms. Maureen Bridge for providing the reception venue and catering, to M Square Sushi & Japanese Cuisine for the sushi platter and to the JCCC Foundation, the formalized expression of friendship and community involvement of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Chicago (JCCC), for sponsoring the welcome reception and cheering station through a US-Japan Partnership Grant awarded to the Osaka Committee of CSCI.
