Chicago Welcomes International Travel Influencers for IPW 2014
From April 5-9, Choose Chicago welcomed more than 6,000 travel buyers, suppliers and media from 70-plus countries for three days of intensive deal-making at the U.S. Travel Association’s IPW 2014. With economic impact to rival the Super Bowl, hosting the nation’s premier travel event provided a first major step to achieving Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s goal of securing 55 million visitors and the city’s position within the top five destinations for international visitation.
Making Chicago a premier destination for tourism and entertainment is a major part of Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s Plan for Economic Growth & Jobs that World Business Chicago (WBC) is implementing to drive growth in Chicago. After reaching 46.4 million visitors in 2012, a 6.4% growth over the previous year, and moving from the 5th to the 2nd most popular convention destination in the U.S., the city is on track to achieve a variety of goals under this strategy, including attracting the stated 55 million visitors to the city annually by 2020. WBC will track monthly tourism statistics on a regular basis going forward.
