Dianna Frid a Chicago-based artist and professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the College of Architecture, Design and the Arts presented Dianna Frid: Words From Obituaries from June 14-19, 2014 in Lucerne at the Alpineum Produzentengalerie. The gallery in Lucerne has been able to secure funding from the sister cities program office in the city of Lucerne.

Under the title Words from Obituaries, Dianna Frid presents two series of works in which text and textile are intricately investigated.

There are fragments of text, for example, that are taken from obituaries she collected and categorized according to the professions of the deceased. In delicate and exquisite craftsmanship those words, along with canvas, paper and graphite are turned into pieces that enhance the pictorial and the dimensional characteristics.
The works are complemented by lustrous graphite membranes applied directly to the walls in an attempt to shift perception of the gallery’s space.

In 2011 Dianna Frid was part of a group exhibition in which she made a collaborative work with gallery member, Monika Müller. Through their ongoing dialogue, Alpineum Produzentengalerie is happy to introduce Dianna Frid’s work in a more encompassing presentation.
