PRAGUE: Dvořák’s Rusalka at the Lyric Opera of Chicago
Join the Prague Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International at the Chicago premiere of the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s brand new production of Antonín Dvořák’s Rusalka.
Tickets include the opera and a pre-performance wine and hors d’oeuvres reception with His Excellency Petr Gandalovič, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the United States and the Honorable Dana Huňátová, Consul General of the Czech Republic in Chicago, at 6 p.m. followed by the 7:30 performance. The reception takes place in the Malott Room on the mezzanine level of the Civic Opera House, which will also be open during intermission. Trio Caliente will perform at the reception.
The water nymph Rusalka lives in a mysterious, haunted world of wood sprites and moonbeams—but she longs for more. When a handsome prince almost drowns in her magic pond, she saves his life. Now smitten, Rusalka begs a witch to make her mortal so she can pursue him. The spell is cast, but not without a terrible price: Rusalka must give up her voice—and if the prince proves fickle, both their souls are damned!
In Czech with projected English texts. Please visit www.LyricOpera.org for further details about the production.
