OSAKA: Japan is Back: The Phenomenon of Abenomics

As part of the programming for 絆 Kizuna 3: Unbroken Circle, the Japan America Society of Chicago presents the economic seminar Japan is Back: The Phenomenon of Abenomics, a Firsthand Experience of The Great East Japan Earthquake and the Progress of the Recovery featuring a keynote address by Mr. Ichiro Soné, Chief Executive Officer, JETRO Chicago; Ms. Akiko Nakagawa, Director General of the Trade Fair Dept., JETRO Tokyo; and moderated by Mr. Greg Burns, Chicago Tribune Editorial Board Member.

Mr. Soné will provide an update on the progress of Abenomics, the economic reform measures put forth by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. He will also speak about the structural changes the Japan economy will soon undertake which are key to the success of Abenomics.

A native of Fukushima, Ms. Nakagawa was working at JETRO’s office in Sendai, the largest city in the Tohoku region, at the time of The Great East Japan Earthquake. Ms. Nakagawa will share her personal account of the disaster and the effect it had on the region’s people and economy. She will also talk about the progress of the recovery and the challenges faced by local industries, especially the manufacturing, agriculture and fishing sectors.
